The holiday season is a hectic time for businesses but this year has brought additional challenges in supply chain delivery and staffing shortages. The onslaught of the COVID-19 pandemic brought about many changes and disruptions in cybersecurity. Organizations globally shifted to remote work scenarios to enable their employees to work from the comfort of their homes. Since this was a sudden decision, many organizations lacked resources to ensure security while users were operating from locations across the world. These redefined security perimeters provided leeway for bad actors to perform cyberattacks.

In our 2021 Security Predictions, the WatchGuard’s Threat Lab team anticipated that authentication would be the cornerstone of strong security. “With billions of usernames and passwords ripe for the picking on the dark web and the prevalence of automated authentication attacks, we believe that any service without MFA enabled will be compromised in 2021,” said WatchGuard CSO Corey Nachreiner.
