CRA 24-Hour Reporting Rule: What Happens If You Miss It?
🚨 The EU Cyber Resilience Act's 24-hour reporting deadline is already in force. Is your organisation prepared?
Since 11 September 2026, manufacturers of covered software, IoT devices and connected products must report certain cybersecurity vulnerabilities and incidents within strict deadlines.
Under the EU Cyber Resilience Act (CRA), manufacturers must submit:
⏱️ **Within 24 hours:** An early warning after becoming aware of an actively exploited vulnerability or severe incident affecting product security.
⏱️ Within 72 hours: A more detailed notification containing available information about the event, its impact and mitigation measures.
⏱️ Final reporting:Within 14 days after a corrective or mitigating measure becomes available for an actively exploited vulnerability, or within one month after the 72-hour notification for a severe incident.
Missing mandatory reporting obligations can create regulatory exposure. However, CRA penalties depend on the circumstances, and missing the 24-hour deadline does not automatically trigger the maximum fine.
In this video, discover five CRA compliance mistakes manufacturers should avoid:
- Assuming CRA reporting only begins in 2027.
- Waiting for a complete investigation before reporting.
- Overlooking vulnerabilities in third-party software components.
- Failing to assign reporting responsibilities.
- Neglecting to test incident reporting procedures.
How prepared is your organisation?
Identify products within CRA scope, strengthen vulnerability monitoring, establish incident escalation procedures and test your reporting workflow before an actual security incident occurs.
