Keeper is excited to announce that it now supports passkeys for mobile platforms on iOS and Android. This update extends passkey management functionality in the Keeper Vault beyond our earlier launch of Keeper browser extension support for Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Brave and Safari.

A passkey is a cryptographic key that lets users log in to accounts without having to enter a password. Passkeys have seen rapid adoption since their introduction in 2022 and Keeper is proud to enable their use across devices, bringing users a more secure and streamlined authentication experience.

iOS

To utilize passkeys on iOS, you must first complete a few setup steps. To begin, open your device's “Settings” app, scroll down and select Passwords. Tap Password Options and ensure "AutoFill Passwords and Passkeys" is toggled on. Next, enable Keeper. For optimal accuracy when using Keeper for Passkeys support, we recommend disabling iCloud Keychain as an autofill option. Please ensure you are running iOS version 17 or above to utilize passkeys on your device.

Once these setup steps are complete, logging in with passkeys is seamless. To create a passkey, you will typically need to visit the app or site’s “account settings” or “security” screen.

Selecting “Create passkey”, will prompt Keeper to intercept the request to create and save a passkey to your vault. Tap continue. Once you’ve successfully authenticated to Keeper, tap Create Passkey. You can see passkey creation with Keeper was successful.

Logging in with a passkey is just as simple. Upon opening the app, I will be asked if I would like to sign in with my passkey and with a single tap of Continue, I am logged in.

Android

To enable the use of passkeys on Android, you must first complete a few setup steps. To begin,

Open Chrome or a Chromium-based browser.
Enter “chrome://flags” into the address bar.
In the “flags” page that opens, enter “passkeys” in the search field.
Select the Default button to display the dropdown menu and select Enabled.
Tap Relaunch when it appears at the bottom of the browser.

Once these initial setup steps are complete, you can begin creating passkeys on your Android device. You will notice the passkey creation and login steps are very similar across both the iOS and Android platforms.

Upon tapping Create passkey on a site or app, Keeper will intercept the request to create and save a passkey to your vault. Tap continue and Create Passkey when prompted. Here you can see passkey creation with Keeper was successful.

Again, logging in with a passkey is just as simple. Upon opening the app, I will be asked if I would like to unlock sign-in options. Tap the prompt, or Continue to authenticate to Keeper. Available passkeys stored in Keeper will be presented. Tap Continue and “Use Passkey” to log in.

Storing passkeys in your Keeper Vault allows you to use them across different browsers and operating systems. Passkeys can also be shared with other users like any other record in your vault.
